New Orleans is one of those places that paints the history of the world in vivid colour. As a merchant gateway from Western Europe and Africa to the Americas, the music that became Jazz, Blues and finally Rock 'n' Roll was born in the city's Congo Square, where on rare days of rest, other-wise enslaved men and women would gather to keep their heritage alive through drum, dance and song.
Today it is the story of the Mardi Gras Indians, with their ornate ritual costumes, decadent feasts and carnival parades, that endures as NOLA's proud emblem of resilience and life in the face of adversity. The people of the Crescent City know how to party, and boy do they know how to cook!
Slap Ya Papa was born in 2013 when founder Lucie Massey returned from Louisiana, hypnotized-in-love with a bag full of recipes and dusty old Zydeco records under her arm. Picking up fellow culture-adventurer and events artist Tristan Pringle along the way, the pair set out to bring a slice of New Orleans to the people of London with a unique supper club.
Popping-up at extraordinary venues around town, we aim to transport you to Slap Ya Papa's Louisiana with famous communal NOLA dishes like Holy-Trinity Gumbo and Big Pot Shrimp Boil, alongside the best in London's Blues, Jazz, Funk and Soul scene playing live from the stage, whilst the bar flows with our notorious Crescent City cocktails!
With an unbridled sense of occasion, great music and delicious food brought together in one-of-a-kind spaces across the Big Smoke, Slap Ya Papa is an evening you are sure to enjoy, and struggle to forget.
As they say in New Orleans...
